We had another busy week here in 3rd grade! Our reading assessments are almost complete and we are moving full steam ahead in math, writing, reading, and social studies! Here is a glimpse of our focus this past week:
Reading: We have been discussing and practicing the characteristics of great readers; choosing a good reading attitude, recommending good books, noticing when we are confused, going back and rereading, etc. Next week we will begin our new book-shopping schedule and your child will be refreshing their book bins weekly!
Writing: We continue our focus on "seed stories" or "small moments" when writing personal narratives. Increased use of personal details in our stories was also targeted this week.
Math: Counting money, dollar notation, finding patterns in numbers were a few key areas we reviewed this week. Next week we will be taking our first unit review test and Unit 1 assessment!
Social Studies: As we continue our study of the geography of Michigan, we focused on the different landforms found in our state. Key words from our lesson include landforms, peninsula, and island. We also talked about relative and exact location and discussed the difference between the two. We used a compass rose to describe the relative location of Michigan in the U.S. and that is an area we will be reviewing often.
**Reminder** Pattengill's Fun Run is next week on Friday, October 5th! Make sure your child is wearing comfortable clothes and shoes!
Enjoy your weekend!
