Week #2 was quite a busy week! We dived right into our 3rd grade curriculum, beginning Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop, Everyday Math, and Social Studies. Here is a snapshot of what we are learning in each area:
Reader's Workshop
We are discussing choosing "just right" books, making connections and meaning when reading our story, focusing on what is going on, and not reading on "auto-pilot"!
Writer's Workshop
Strategies have been introduced to the students in case they find themselves searching for something to write about. A couple of strategies include making a list of important people, choosing one, and write about important experiences with them; making a list of important places they have been to, choose one and write about it.
Math
In math we are reviewing topics such as name collection boxes, data collection and tally charts, telling time, and using our student reference books.!
Social Studies
We begin our study of Michigan with a look at the geography of our beautiful state. We are learning key words that have to do with geography and using that knowledge when discussing Michigan.
Our class has also begun working on practicing cursive, something that will continue through the year.
I would like to thank all the families that were able to make it to Curriculum Night! I know how busy you all are and appreciate you dedicating time to come meet with me and check out your child's new room!
Reminder: There is still time to donate $4.00 towards the purchase of the Scholastic News magazine for your child. Thank you in advance for your support!
Have a wonderful weekend and I will see your child on Wednesday, September 19th!
